Baptism is God’s Gift for You and Your Children

And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38

What is Baptism?  Simply put, baptism is water which is applied to an individual in the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  In Holy Baptism, God connects His Word of promise to the water in order to deliver precious gifts.

One of those gifts is the forgiveness of sins.  This is what every sinner needs in order to be right with God!  The Bible tells us that everyone is conceived and born in sin (Psalm 51:5).  Therefore, every child that is born is, by nature, deserving of God’s anger and punishment.  (Ephesians 2:3).  This includes your child!  There is no greater trouble your child faces than this.  Yet it is right here where Baptism is such a great gift for him or her. In Baptism, the Lord tears down the barrier of sin that separates us from God.  Baptism frees your child from the eternal consequences of sin.  Jesus has taken upon Himself God’s punishment for sin, and God reconciles Himself to us by crediting to us the forgiveness of sins won by Christ at Calvary’s cross.

With the washing of Holy Baptism, your child is clean and holy and under the good favor of God.  Baptism frees him or her to live forever as a “favorite” of the Lord, a beloved child of God.  Through the forgiveness of sins, your son or daughter has the same place in the lap of the Father ad does the only-begotten Son Jesus.
